Dear Friends,
Courtney Cox was inspired to pursue journalism as she was growing up in Memphis because of seeing women who looked like her delivering the news. Savannah Smith was encouraged by her high school journalism teacher and mentor to make journalism her career.
The two University of Tennessee students are recent recipients of the East Tennessee Society of Professional Journalists Scholarships funded by the Front Page Foundation.
We invite you to support the Front Page Foundation’s annual scholarships and programs advocating excellence in journalism with a tax-deductible donation to the Foundation. Your contribution is an investment in the future of journalism and in a well-informed society.
Please join us in supporting the next generation of journalists by donating to the Foundation through PayPal at the Foundation’s website, www.frontpagefoundation.org and clicking on “Donate” or by sending a check to the Front Page Foundation, P.O. Box 52433, Knoxville, TN 37950-2433.
You know how important it is to deliver news that is accurate and fair and to protect First Amendment freedoms of press and speech. This is why the Front Page Foundation awards scholarships to students at the University of Tennessee and Pellissippi State Community College.
In partnership with East Tennessee SPJ, the Foundation also supports professional development for current journalists and the annual Hill Lecture on Science, Society and the Mass Media at UT.
“Seeing Black women on my TV every day really gave me hope that one day I too could sit at an anchor desk,” says Courtney, a recent graduate. “This scholarship gave me the opportunity to invest in myself as a young journalist.”
Savannah’s teacher inspired her to pursue journalism when she worked on her high school newspaper. “My journalism teacher, really my mentor, pulled me aside and told me that I would flourish in this industry,” she says. “This scholarship means so much to me.”
Thank you for your consideration and support. Your donation is so important in helping the Foundation encourage the next generation of journalists.
With regards,
