Two veteran Tennessee State Capitol reporters will talk about covering the Legislature in a virtual panel on Tuesday, Nov. 14 at 12 p.m.
Erik Schelzig of the Tennessee Journal and Kimberlee Kruesi of The Associated Press will talk about the turmoil and controversy during this year’s regular and special Legislative sessions as well as the challenges in covering the General Assembly.
The Nov. 14 program is being held via Zoom by the East Tennessee Pro Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists. It will be moderated by Jesse Fox Mayshark of The Compass.

Erik Schelzig of the Tennessee Journal
Erik Schelzig was named the editor of the Tennessee Journal in 2018 after a dozen years as an Associated Press statehouse correspondent in Nashville, where he chronicled the state’s changeover from Democratic to Republican control.
He previously worked for the wire service in West Virginia and Florida.
Schelzig has a master’s degree in political science from George Washington University.
Kimberlee Kruesi of The AP
Kimberlee Kruesi is a political reporter with The Associated Press, where she’s worked for nearly a decade.
She is based in Nashville and writes about state government and abortion, while also fighting for access to public records.
Before moving to the Nashville bureau, Kruesi worked for the AP in Boise, Idaho. She covered Idaho politicians and the state Legislature. She is a graduate of Point Loma Nazarene University.
