East Tennessee SPJ board member Angela Dennis, a journalist at Knox News and The News Sentinel, has been named the winner of a prestigious award by Gannett, the local news organization’s parent company.
She received the Gannett Greatest Award for her “community cultivation” efforts in Knoxville and beyond. Her work focuses on reporting stories related to the Black experience in Knoxville.
Dennis was quoted as saying the recognition is “the most meaningful award that I’ve won in this career.”
We knew when we asked Angela to join our newsroom that she is a remarkable talent. Angela has exceeded every expectation we had and more, and has put us in a much better position to ensure Black communities are fully and truly present in our coverage.
