Golden Press Card Awards to be announced Oct. 19

UPDATE: The winners of the 2020 Golden Press Card Awards have been announced.

The best journalism of East Tennessee will be honored on Tuesday, Oct. 19, when the East Tennessee Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists announces the Golden Press Card Awards.

The winners of the annual journalism awards will be announced at noon on Oct. 19 in a video on the organization’s Facebook page, facebook.com/EastTNSPJ.

A virtual event is being held this year due to concerns about the spread of COVID-19. How to view information will be posted on the Facebook page and on the chapter website, etspj.org

Nearly 100 entries were received from news organizations and journalists in the Knoxville, Chattanooga and Crossville areas of East Tennessee. Awards will be announced for first and second places and the best-of-show award, the Golden Press Card.

Entries came from television newsrooms, radio stations, small and large newspapers, digital-only news sites and freelance journalists.

In a continuing shift, several categories involved all entrants competing with each other, reflecting the convergence of traditional media on digital platforms while other categories were media-specific.

A list of winners will also be posted on the chapter’s website. Certificates will be distributed to the winners and finalists following the announcement.

Judging of the contest was coordinated by the Oklahoma SPJ Pro Chapter and no one in the East Tennessee chapter was involved in selecting the honorees..

The East Tennessee SPJ Pro Chapter wishes to thank all the media organizations and journalists who participated this year in the contest, which seeks to recognize excellence in journalism throughout the East Tennessee region.

Entry Information for the 2021 Golden Press Card Contest will be announced in early 2022.
