PIOs and Journalists: It’s complicated … let’s untangle it

Join us at Scruffy City Hall on Market Square on Thursday, April 20, from 6-8 p.m. for a panel discussion with three local public information officers (PIOs).

On the panel are Carly Harrington, chief of communications for the Knox County Schools; Scott Erland, communications manager of the Knoxville Police Department; and Erin Hatfield, communications coordinator for the Boyd Center for Business and Economic Research.

Jesse Mayshark of the Compass will moderate.

The Q&A format will allow the PIOs and journalists to discuss the ups and downs of their relationship and how both sides can assist and learn from each other.

There will be time before and after the program for socializing off-the-clock.

Pizza will be provided by the chapter. Drinks available for purchase.

This will be ETSPJ’s first post-pandemic PIO panel. A lot has happened since then, and there are a few new faces since the last time the chapter had a PIO panel in May 2017.
